Zelkova abelicea
Cretan speciesCretan zelkova is in the elm or Ulmaceae family and is native to the Greek island of Crete. It is a medium-sized deciduous tree growing to about 5 m tall.
It is by far the most preferred wood for making the katsouna (κατσούνα), the famous traditional Cretan shepherd's versatile crook, with its indestructibility.
