The blueblossom or blue blossom ceanothus in the Rhamnaceae family and is native to California in North America. It is a small tree up to 6 m tall.

  • Leaves are alternate, simple, glossy green, to 5 cm long, three prominent veins on the underside, tip obtuse to acute, margin sometimes gland-toothed.
  • Flower is a compact panicle-like inflorescence, colour ranging from blue to white, in 7.5 cm spike-like clusters.
  • Fruit is about 3 mm long, glandular-stick, slightly lobed.
