Cheshunt pine species

Cheshunt pine is a member of the cypress or Cupressaceae family and is native to the alpine regions of Tasmania's southwest and Central Highlands, on the western coast ranges and Lake St. Clair.

  • It is a prostrate shrub and can reach a height of up to 4 m tall.
  • Foliage is gray-green, with branchlets being short, ribbed, square in cross-section and curving downward at the tips.
  • Leaves are scale-like, 2–3 mm long, overlapping and arranged in opposite decussate pairs pressed closely o the stem.
  • Species is dioecious (males and females on separate plants), with male and female cones being very small (3–4 mm) at branch tips.
