Chinese weeping speciesChinese weeping cypress is in the cypress or Cupressaceae family and is native to southwestern and central China, as well as to Vietnam. It is a medium-sized coniferous tree glowing up to 35 m tall.
- Foliage grows in dense pendulous sprays of bright green, very slender, slightly flattened shoots. It is cultivated as an ornamental tree with its graciously sweeping form and texture.
- Leaves are scale-like, 1–2 mm long (up to 5 mm long on lead shoots); young trees up to about 10 years old have juvenile foliage with soft needle-like leaves 3–8 mm long.
- Seed cones are round, greenish, maturing to dark brown when ripe, 8–15 mm in diameter, with 6–10 cone scales; pollen cones are globose or oblong, 3–5 mm long
