Picea morrisonicola
Taiwan speciesTaiwan spruce is a member of the pine or Pinaceae family and is native to the Central Mountain Range in Taiwan, and it is the only species of spruce in Taiwan. It grows at altitudes of about 2,000–2,500 m and can be a large tree up to 50 m in height.
- Branches are dense, horizontal, the branchlets glabrous.
- Leaves are needle-like, 1.0–1.5 cm long, 2–3 mm across, sharp-pointed, mounted on short pegs (sterigmata).
- Mature cones are pendulous, non-fragmenting, cylindric-oblong, purplish, about 7 cm long, the scales obovate, 15 mm long, rounded at apex.
- Bark is gray or brown-gray, irregular-cracked, scaly, with scales sub-rounded, about 0.3 cm.
