Pinus koraiensis
Korean speciesKorean pine or Chinese pinenut is a member of the pine or Pinaceae family and is native to eastern Asia, including Korea, China, Mongolia and central Japan. It can reach up to 30 m in height.
- It is a member of the white pine sub-genus Strobus), with 5 needles per sheath, up to 11 cm long. Branches are in yearly whorls.
- The species is monoecious; pollen cones are ellipsoid, crowd at base of new shoots; female cones are near end of new shoots in groups of 1–5 green, ovoid conelets. They mature in 2 years.
- Mature cones are up to 12 cm long, 6 cm wide when closed, armed and on short stems. Seeds are edible and are the most common "pine nuts" sold throughout Europe and North America.
