Halesia tetraptera

Silverbell tree is a member of the Styrax or Styracaceae family and is native to the southeastern United States. It is popular as an ornamental tree, growing up to 10 m tall.

• Leaves are alternate, simple, ovate, 9–15 cm long, slightly pointed, with a finely serrated margin.
• Flowers are very showy white, bell-shaped, with 4 petals, up to 3 cm long, in dangling clusters on 2–3 cm long stocks.
• Fruit is a distinctive oblong drupe up to 4 cm long, with 4 wings extending its length, yellowish orange in summer and drying out to reddish-brown by fall, some remaining on the tree over winter.
