Sinojackia xylocarpa (Chinese: 狭果秤锤树), commonly called jacktree in some western gardens, is a small spreading deciduous tree or large shrub in the styrax or Styracaceae family and is native to Jiangsu province in China. It typically grows to up to 6 m tall.

  • Leaves are obovate-elliptic, short stalked, to 8.5 cm long, glossy green with toothed margins are glossy dark green. Fall color is yellowish brown.
  • Flowers are pendant, star-shaped, white, to 2.5 cm wide, with yellow center stamens, in 3–5-flowered cymes, with each flower having 5–7 petals, covering the tree with blooms in April-May.
  • Fruit is an egg-shaped woody drupe 2.1 cm long which ripens in July-September.
