Indigofera amblyantha
pink-flowered speciesThe pink-flowering indigo is a member of the pea or Fabaceae family and is a deciduous, spreading shrub native to various regions in China. It typically grows in a rounded form to 2.5 m tall and wide.
- Leaves are pinnate, 10–12.5 cm long, with 7–13 ovate gray-green leaflets each up to 3 cm long, narrowly oval, tapered towards both ends, the apex terminated by a short mucro 1.2–1.5 cm long; leaflets have pale appressed hairs on both surfaces, more abundant beneath; leaves have no appreciable fall color.
- Flowers are in racemes 7–12 cm long, slender, erect, produced continuously from the leaf-axils from June until October on very short peduncles. They are arranged closely on the raceme and are each 6 mm long, varying in colour from pale rose to deep pink.
- Seed pods are dark purple, 2.5–4 cm long and 3–4 mm wide, turning brown over the winter.
