Colutea persica
[Persian] species[Iranian] bladder-senna is in the pea or Fabaceae family and is native to Iran and Kurdistan. It is a deciduous shrub 1.8–2.5 m high.
- Leaves are deciduous, pinnate, 3.7–7.5 cm long, with 5–11 leaflets each 0.6–1.3 cm long, shape obovate or obcordate, tapered to the base, broad at the apex and either rounded or indented there, glabrous or sparingly downy beneath.
- Flowers are in racemes of 3–4 flowers, each about 2.1 cm long, pure yellow, the wing-petals longer than the keel; calyx is funnel-shaped with 5 sharp teeth.
- Seed pod is bladder-like, inflated, glabrous, 3.7–5 cm long, open at the end.
- Colutea var. buhsei, has pods with appressed (aligned close to surface) hairs; leaves and flowers somewhat larger.
