The Caragana jubata is a member of the pea or Fabaceae family and is quite widely distributed in Asia, including China (provinces of Gansu, Hebei, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Xinjia and Yunnan), Bhutan, India (Sikkim), Mongolia, Nepal and eastern Russia. It is a shrub less than 2 m tall.

  • Leaves are pinnate, densely villous (hairy), 5–7 cm long, with 8–12 pairs of leaflets, leaflet blades being oblong, 11–15 mm long and 4–6 mm across, base rounded, apex rounded to acute.
  • Flower is solitary, pea-like, reddish purple, bright pink, pink or white, yellow, 2.5-3.9 cm in length.
  • Fruit is a legume up to 3 m long, densely villous.
