Euonymus hamiltonianus
Hamilton's speciesHamilton’s spindle is in the bittersweet or Celastraceae family and is native to the Asia (Afghanistan, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Burma). It is a shrub or tree that can grow up to 20 m tall.
- Leaves are deciduous or semi-evergreen, opposite, somewhat oval, 5-15 cm long and 2–-5 cm across, with pointed tips, leathery in texture, with fine teeth on the edges, turning dark orange-red in the fall.
- Flower has 4 petals, is pale yellow to beige, in cymes (3-9 flowers per cyme), blooming in spring (March to May).
- Fruit is showy pendulous pink, opening to display red arils and black seeds, ripening in the fall.
