Euonymus grandiflorus is in the bittersweet or Celastraceae family and is an evergreen to deciduous shrub native to India, Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam and China. It grows to about 6 m tall.

  • Leaves are in opposite pairs, oblong-elliptic to ovate-elliptic, 5–12 cm long, pointed tip, with finely serrated margins; fall colour is wine-purple.
  • Flower has 4-petals, pale yellow to beige, in cymes (3-9 flowers per cyme), blooming in spring (March to May). They are followed by showy pendulous pink fruit (loculicidal capsules) with red arils and black seeds, ripening in the fall.
