Populus talassica
命叶杨 speciesPopulus talassica is in the willow or Salicaceae family and is native to China (Xinjiang province), southern Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
- Leaf is deciduous, simple, ovate-orbicular or ovate-elliptic, 5–8 cm long and 3–5 cm broad, base cuneate, broadly cuneate, or rounded, margin with shallowly rounded teeth, apex with a tapering point.
- Species is dioecious; male catkin is 3–4 cm long with purple anthers; female catkin is 5–6 cm long, lengthening to 10 cm when mature.
- Seed capsule is ovoid, 3-valved, 5–8 mm long, tomentose, maturing in early summer to bear 10–20 capsules each containing numerous tiny seeds embedded in downy fluff.
- Bark bark grayish green.
