Ehretia dicksonii (called marubachishanogi, or “マルバチシャノキ” in Japanese) is a species in the borage or Boraginaceae family and is a deciduous tree native to Japan, China, Taiwan, Nepal and Vietnam. It can grow to 15 m tall, with a broad spreading habit.

  • Leaves are alternate, simple, obovate, ovate or elliptic, finely toothed, 8–25 cm long and 4–15 cm across, with a cuneate or rounded base.
  • Flowers are pale yellow or whitish, in terminal panicles 5–10 cm wide.
  • Fruit is a small blackish drupe.
