Acer elegantulum
秀丽枫 elegant speciesElegant maple is in the soapberry or Sapindaceae family and is native to eastern China (provinces of Anhui, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang). It can reach up to 15 m in height.
- Branchlets are green, dense; bark on trunk is scabrous (rough, mangy).
- Leaves are deciduous, simple, opposite, 7–16 cm wide and 5-13 cm length-wise, papery, 5 lobed, lobes ovate or oblong, serrated, tips pointed, tufts of hair in the vein axles on the lower surface, margins minutely serrate; upper surface is green, lower surface pale green; petiole is 2.8–6 cm long.
- Species is dioecious; inflorescences [flowers] are small, numerous, on 2–3 cm stems, with a 2-stemmed branchlet; flowers are 5-morous.
- Fruit is a double, glabrous samara, individuals 2-2.5 cm long, wings spreading obtusely.
