Nothofagus gunnii
tanglefoot speciesTanglefoot beech or deciduous beech is a deciduous shrub in southern beech or Nothofagaceae family and endemic to Tasmania in Australia, in alpine and sub-alpine regions in the west to central portions of the state. It grows up to 3 m tall.
- Leaves are simple, alternate, ovate, 1 cm long, triangular, with toothed margins and short petioles; leaf lamina is generally less than 2 cm in length and is distinctly crinkled; colour is green, turning yellow and then bright red in autumn.
- Plants are monoecious, with flowers being small and inconspicuous.
- Fruit is 6 mm wide and woody, containing 3 small-winged nuts.
