Kashmir maple, evergreen maple or Himalayan maple is in the soapberry or Sapindaceae family and is widespread across central, eastern, and southeastern Asia, from Tibet and northern Pakistan east as far as Japan, including southern China, northern India, and northern Indochina. It is a medium-sized tree, reaching up to 22 m in height.

  • Young shoots are reddish-bronze, finely hairy; trunks are buttressed, with a smooth to wrinkled bark.)
  • Leaves are evergreen to semi-deciduous, simple, opposite, ovate-lanciolate, sometimes 3 lobes on young leaves, no teeth, petiole 5-12 cm long, dark green on top, pale green underneath.
  • Flowers are hermaphroditic, small and inconspicuous, about 4 mm, greenish white, gathered in hairy racemes.
  • Winged samaras are double, 2.5 cm long, somewhat pubescent, wings at an obtuse angle.
