Acer miyabei
クロビイタヤ Miyabe speciesMiyabe maple or Miyabe’s maple is in the soapberry or Sapindaceae family and is native to Japan (Hokkaido and the northern area of Honshū). It is medium-sized tree, reaching up to 20 m in height.
- Leaves are deciduous, palmate, 7–20 cm long and 12–20 cm wide, 5-lobed, with base 2 lobes smaller, with a 5–15 cm petiole (the petiole bleeds white latex if cut); lobes are ovate with long blunt tips; margins cut into several large, rounded teeth.
- Species is dioecious; Flowers yellow, downy, produced in the spring when leaves appear, a few together each on a slender stalk in corymbs 5 to 7.5 cm long.
- Fruit has with downy nutlets; keys are 2.2–2.5 cm long, wings .08 cm wide, slightly reflexed beyond the horizontal position.
