Ilex pernyi

Perny holly is in the holly or Aquifoliaceae family and is native to Mongolia and the south-west of China, specifically Anhui, Gansu, and Shaanxi Provinces. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree, growing to a height of 5 m.

• Leaves are diamond-shaped with sharply toothed margins, sessile, opposite on many branches; branches have thorns.
• The species is dioecious, with small, yellow flowers.
• Fruit is a red drupe (stone fruit), 8–13 mm in diameter.
• Bark is dark gray.
