Carpinus henryana
Chinese Henry speciesCarpinus henryana is a member of the birch or Betulaceae family and is native of central and western China. It is referred to in Flora of China as Carpinus tschonoskiii var. henryana. It is a deciduous tree up to 18 m tall.
Branches are reddish brown, initially silky-shaggy hairy and later young shoots clothed with silky hairs.
- Leaves are narrowly ovate-lanceolate, mostly rounded or even slightly heart-shaped at the base, fine-pointed, simply or doubly toothed; 12–20 cm long and 5–7.5 cm across, sparsely shaggy-hairy above, silky-hairy on the midrib and veins beneath; veins in 14-16 pairs; leaf-stalk is up to 3.4 cm long, bare or silky-shaggy hairy.
- Fruit-clusters up to 5 cm long, slender; the bracts are obliquely ovate, coarsely toothed, 1.2 -12-14 mm long; main stalk silky-hairy. Nutlet is dark brown, ovoid, 6–8-ribbed, downy.
