Maytenus boaria
common speciesMayten is in the bittersweet or Celastraceae family and is an evergreen tree native to Chile and Argentina in South America. It can reach a height of up to 20 m tall.
- leaves are small, alternate, lanceolate, fine serrate margins, light green color, about 2.5–5 cm long, mid-green color, paler below; petiole slender, very short.
- Flowers are small; male flowers are brownish yellow and female are green with purple lines.
- Fruit is a yellow bivalve capsule, which contains one or two seeds, and is covered by a red-colored membrane. Its seeds are easy to germinate.
