Acer mandshuricum
Manchurian speciesManchurian maple is in the soapberry or Sapindaceae family and is native to China. It is a slender deciduous tree growing up to 30 m tall. It is related to three-flower maple (A. triflorum) and paperbark maple (A. griseum) but has smooth, gray bark unlike the exfoliating bark of either.
- Leaves are opposite, compound (trifoliate), leaflets with distinct red petioles 7-10 cm long, leaves 5-10 cm long and 1.5-3 cm across, serrated, all 3 leaves a similar size. Leaves turn orange or red in the fall.
- Species is dioecious. Flowers are small, yellowish green in groups of 3-5 flowers.
- Fruit is a double samara 3-3.5 cm long, horizontally spreading.
- Bark is smooth, gray.
