Cornus controversa

Giant dogwood , also referred to as its variegated form, wedding cake tree, is in the dogwood or Cornaceae family and is native to China, the Himalayas and Japan.

• Leaves are alternate, simple, ovate, 8-14 cm long.
• Species is monoecious. Flowers are creamy white and in flat panicles in summer.
• Fruit is clusters of round black drupes up to 12 mm in diameter that are attractive to birds.
• The wedding cake tree cultivar has leaves with cream-colored margins, which turn yellow in autumn.
