Acer henryi
Henry's speciesHenry's maple is in the soapberry or Sapindaceae family and is native to China. It is a small tree growing up to 10 m tall.
- Leaves are opposite, compound (trifoliate), usually coarsely toothed, sometimes 3-lobed, up to 12 cm wide and 5 cm across. Both surfaces are pubescent. Leaves turn purple or red in the fall.
- Species is dioecious. Flowers are small, sessile (no stocks), yellow-green, in pendant clusters up to 7 cm in length, appearing before the leaves in spring.
- Fruit is a samara in long connected chains, 2.5 cm long, spreading at about 90°.
- Bark is smooth, light brown (olive green).
