- Leaves are alternate, simple, elliptic to ovate, dull-pointed and toothed, up to 6 cm long and 2.5 cm across, turning red-orange in the fall.
- Flowers are white, with 5 narrow petals up to 2 cm long, in open clusters on the ends of twigs in spring.
- Fruit is round, 8 mm across, green, turning red and then purple-black by fall.
