The Callery pear is in the rose or Rosaceae family and is native to China and Vietnam. It grows up to a height of 8 m. It is planted widely in North America as an ornamental tree.

  • Leaves are alternate, simple, oval, up to 8 cm long, glossy dark green.
  • Flowers are white, about 2.5 cm across with 5 petals.
  • Fruit is light brown, round, small (less than 1 cm in diameter), softening late in the fall and developing a pear taste.
