Pacific speciesPacific willow is in the willow or Salicaceae family and is native to northern and western North America, in wetland habitats. It is a shrub or tree 1-11 m tall.
- Leaves are simple, alternate, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, 4–17 cm long, 1–3.5 cm wide, glossy dark green above, sometimes glaucous, hairy below, base pointed to rounded, tips long and tail-like.
- Species is dioecious. Flowers are yellow catkins 1–9 cm long, lacking sepals and petals, emerging in the spring after leaves are out.
- Fruit is a capsule which splits open to release the seeds that are surrounded by tufts of hairs.
