Betula albosinensis
Chinese red speciesChinese red birch is a member of the birch or Betulaceae family and is native to western China. It is grown ornamentally in parts of North America, growing up to 25 m tall.
- Leaves are alternate, simple, oblong, coarsely toothed, with distinctly tapering, pointed tips.
- Species is monoecious; male catkins in the spring are drooping, up to 7 cm long; female catkins are at various angles, up to 2 cm long, turning brown and disintegrating to disperse seeds in the early winter.
- Bark has a pinkish-red colour and peels horizontally in thin strips.
