Acer negundo
Manitoba speciesBox elder or Manitoba maple is in the soapberry or Sapindaceae family and is native to central and eastern North America along moist riverbanks, from the southern and central Prairies in Canada in a band all the way to the southeastern and eastern United States. It is one of the most widespread and adaptable of all North American trees, reaching over 21 m tall.
- Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound (3–7 leaves), with leaflets 5–10 cm long and 3–7 cm wide, with serrated margins.
- Flowers are without petals, forming tassel-like hanging clusters. Twigs are covered with a gray, waxy powder.
- Seeds are double samaras, distinctly pointed at a 35°-40° angle, many clustered together, initially green with brown wings and aging to be light brown.
