Himalayan speciesThe Himalayan hazel is in the birch or Betulaceae family and is native to the Himalayas of eastern Asia. It can reach up to 32 m tall.
- Branchlets are gray, pubescent, slender.
- Leaf is deciduous, simple, rounded or elliptic, 7–12 cm long and 3–5 cm broad, with a fine and sharply serrated margin and an often truncated apex.
- Plant is monoecious or dioecious (can individually be male or female and some can be both sexes); male (pollen) catkins are pendulous with numerous solitary flowers and no perianth, while the female catkins are inconspicuous, 6-8 scaly buds and perianth adnate.
- Fruit is a nut produced in clusters of 2–6.
