Celtis jessoensis
Japanese speciesThe Japanese hackberry or the Jesso hackberry is in the cannabis or Cannabaceae family and is a medium-sized tree native to Japan and the Koreas. It can grow up to 25 m in height.
- Branchlets are slightly pubescent, reddish to blackish brown; lenticels are prominent; stipules are absent.
- Leaves are deciduous, simple, alternate, narrow or broadly ovate 5–9 cm long and 3–4 cm broad, , papery, with a sharply serrated margin, glaucous beneath and downy on the leaf veins, upper surface glabrous, lower surface glaucous or pale green, apex acuminate; petiole is furrowed, 0.2–0.7 cm long, somewhat pubescent.
- Flowers are arranged in densely clustered cymes.
- Fruit is solitary, ellipsoidal to globose, 1.1–1.4 cm in diameter, orange-yellow to reddish.
