Celtis biondii is a large shrub or small tree in the cannabis or Cannabaceae family and is native to central China. It can grow up to 14 m in height.

  • Leaves are deciduous, simple, alternate, ovate to narrowly oval, 3.7–10 cm long, often slenderly pointed, tapered to rounded at the base, distinctly asymmetrical at the base, generally coarsely toothed on half closer to the apex; leaves are downy at first but almost or quite glabrous by autumn; petiole is 3–8 mm long.
  • The variety C. biondii var. heterophylla has distinctly shaped leaves often tapering sharply to a narrowing point for half the length of the leaf.
  • Fruit is globose or slightly tapered towards the top, 6 mm long, may be solitary, in groups of 1–3, orange-coloured, stock about 1.2 cm long.
