The Canary spurge is in the euphorbia or Euphorbiaceae family and is native to Madeira and the Canary Islands. It is an evergreen shrub growing to 2 m or more.

  • Leaves are narrow, up to 20 cm long.
  • The plant contains a milky-white sap, which oozes out of the stems when cut and which can be a harmful irritant to the eyes.
  • Flowers are brown, honey-scented, produced in the spring.
