Dipelta yunnanensis
Yunnan speciesYunan dipelta> is in the honeysuckle or Caprifoliaceae family and is native to Yunnan province in China. It is a deciduous shrub with a spreading graceful habit 4 m high in the wild.
- Young shoots four-angled, minutely downy.
- Leaves are opposite, ovate-lanceolate, slender-pointed, rounded to broadly wedge-shaped at the base, 5–12 cm long and 2.5–5 cm across, slightly downy and dark glossy green above, more downy beneath especially on the midrib; petiole is 3–6 mm long.
- Flowers develop in short clusters from short leafy shoots that spring from the previous year’s growth. The corolla 2–2.5 cm long, tubular at the base, expanding 5 short rounded lobes; the colour is creamy white, more or less stained with rose, with an orange throat; flower-stalks are slender, downy, 1.3–2.5 cm long, with 4 heart-shaped, membranous bracts beneath the calyx; flowering is in May.
