Tall Oregon grape is in the barberry or Berberidaceae family and is native native to western North America.

  • It is an evergreen shrub growing 1–3 m tall by 1.5 m wide.
  • Leaves are pinnate and up to 30 cm long, with spiny leaflets which are leathery and resembling those of holly.
  • Flowers are yellow and in dense clusters in early spring.
  • Berries are oval, dark dusty blue to bluish-black, giving rise to the common name “Oregon grape”.
