Brachychiton discolor
lacebark speciesThe lacebark tree is a large tree in the mallow or Malvaceae family and is native to central and eastern Queensland and north to Newcastle in central New South Wales in Australia. The tree grows from 15 to 35 m tall.
- Bark is dark brown or dark grey, irregularly fissured; branchlets are stellate pubescent to glabrescent (becoming sparsely hairy or hairless).
- Leaves are deciduous, simple, alternate, ovate to palmately lobed, bluish green or silver or gray -green.
- Plant is monoecious; flowers are in panicles of 3–10 unisexual flowers, perianth bell shaped, 5 (8) lobed, about 3.5–5.6 cm long and 5–6 cm across, stellate hairy and papillate on the outer surface and stellate tomentose inside, generally pink, darker red inside.
- Fruit is a brown follicle, densely stellate hairy outside, ellipsoid, about 10–20 cm long, 3.5–4.5 cm wide, shortly beaked. Seeds are 30–50 per follicle, about 9–10 mm long and 5–7 mm wide.
