Paulownia elongata is in the paulownia or Paulowneaceae family and is native to Asia. It is planted as a commercial tree for sawing into lumber in North America and China, producing strong, yet light wood.

In some commercial plantations, the trees can grow up to 4.6 m or more in the first year and can reach a harvestable size in 5-7 years.
