The honey bush or scoparia is in the heath or Ericaceae family and is a plant endemic to the Tasmania area of Australia.

Its habit is erect, bushy and it is described as a broom-like shrub. It grows in wind-swept regions to 1–3 m high.

  • Leaves are crowded, sharp pointed, linear-lanceolate with a broad sheathing base, 3–6 cm long; they persist for a number of years, even when dead.
  • Flowers are in terminal spikes 4–12 cm long in varying colours of orange, yellow, red, pink or white, flowering in January-March. Flowers have caps of joined petals, with 5 mm long stamens and a short style.
  • Richea scoparia hybridizes with Richea pandanifolia.
