Tilia miqueliana
Miquel's speciesThe Miquel’s linden or temple lime is in the mallow or Malvaceae family and is native to the provinces of Anhui, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Zhejiang in China. It is a medium sized shade tree that typically grows to 17 m tall.
- Bark is dull grey, developing close, lumpy and corky ridges; twigs are quite slender, usually with dense white stellate hairs; buds have 2 exposed bud scales.
- Leaves are deciduous, simple, alternate, somewhat triangular and broadest near the base which is usually cordate, 5.5–12 cm long and 4-8.5 cm across, with quite long and usually forward-pointing marginal teeth; underleaf is grey with stellate pubescence (mostly 8-armed), and with brown hairs under the veins.
- Leaf-like floral bracts on the flower stocks are 5.5–11 cm long and 1–2 cm wide, often sessile, densely covered beneath with grey-white stellate hairs. Flowers are cup-shaped, in groups of with 8–20 flowers; staminodes (stamens without anthers) are present.
- Fruit is round, 0.8–1.0 cm in diameter, often with small bumps and dense stellate hairs.
