The Himalayan stachyurus is a member of the Stachyuraceae family and is native to parts of China, Bhutan, northern India, northern Myanmar and Nepal. It grows up to 3–5 m tall.

  • Leaves are simple, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 8–13 cm long and 3.5–5.5 cm across, papery to thinly leathery, ovate, papery to membranous, margin densely serrated, petiole 0.5–1.5 cm long. Leaves turn red to orange-red in the fall.
  • Flowers are yellow, 6 mm across, on short stems, petals obovate and 5 mm long and 3.5 mm across, in long, stiff, plentiful pendant racemes, blossoming in March-April before leaves appear.
  • Fruit is subglobose, 7–8 mm in diameter, glabrous, in long, pendant racemes, ripening in May to August.
