Stachyurus chinensis
Chinese speciesChinese stachyurus is a member of the Stachyuraceae family and is native to mainland China and Taiwan. As a spreading, deciduous shrub, it grows up to 2.5 m tall.
- Leaves are simple, ovate, papery to membranous, 5–12 long and 3–7 cm across, petiole 1–2 cm long; they turn pink and red in autumn.
- Flowers are bell-shaped, greenish-yellow, in long, stiff, plentiful pendant racemes, blossoming in March-April before leaves appear. They open two weeks later than the related S. praecox.
- Fruit is globose, 6-7 mm in diameter, glabrous, in long, pendant racemes, ripening in May to July.
