Pieris formosa
Himalayan speciesThe Himalayan andromeda is in the heath or Ericaceae family and is native to Yunnan province in southwest China. It is an evergreen shrub reaching 3–4 m in height.
- Leaves are spirally arranged, 8–18 cm long and sharply serrated at the base, the young leaves being colorful copper and reddish in the spring.
- Flowers are white, urn-shaped and in large racemes 5–12 cm long in late spring.
- Fruit is a woody capsule which splits into five sections to release the numerous small seeds.
