The Chinese flowering quince is in the rose or Rosaceae family and is native to China, Bhutan and Burma. It is a thorny shrub or tree growing up to 6 meters tall.

  • Leaves are deciduous, 5–11 cm long and 2–4 cm across, oval to lance-shaped, pointed, often toothed; new leaves are pubescent on the undersides.
  • Flowers are pink or white, bell-shaped and up to 4 cm wide.
  • The fruit is a fragrant yellow-red pome 6 or 7 cm wide.
