Vitex agnus-castus
lilac speciesThe lilac chaste tree is a member of the mint or Lamiaceae family and is native to the Mediterranean region in Europe. It typically is grown in warm winter climates as a vase-shaped, deciduous shrub to 3–4 m tall or trained as a single trunk tree to 6 m tall.
- Leaves are aromatic, compound, palmate, grayish-green, with 5–7 lance-shaped leaflets, each leaflet to 15 cm long.
- Flowers are small, fragrant, lavender to pale violet, appearing in loose panicles up to 30 cm long in July-August. They are quite attractive to butterflies.
