Exochorda korolkowii
Turkestan speciesThe Turkestan pearlbush is in the rose or Rosaceae family and originates in Turkestan in Central Asia. It is an erect shrub growing up to 4.5 m tall.
- Leaves are deciduous, obovate, glabrous, those of the sterile shoots 3–7.5 cm long and 2.1–3.7 cm wide, toothed towards the pointed apex; base tapers to a short stock occasionally with 2 deep, narrow lobes; leaves of the flowering twigs much smaller, 1.2–2.3 cm wide, not toothed.
- Flower buds are pearl-like (hence the common name of pearlbush); flowers are pure white, about 3.8 cm across, in erect racemes 7.5-–9 cm long; stamens are in 5 groups, 5 in each group; flowering is in May.
- Fruit is composed of 5 flattened, two-edged divisions, each 1.3–2.2 cm long, arranged starwise.
