Pieris japonica
Japanese speciesThe Japanese andromeda is in the heath or Ericaceae family and is native to Japan, Taiwan and east China. It is an evergreen shrub reaching 3–4 m in height.
- Leaves are evergreen, alternate, simple, up to 9 cm long, serrated, the young leaves emerging orange-bronze and maturing to glossy green.
- Flowers are white, urn-shaped and in large drooping racemes 7–15 cm long in April.
- Many cultivars are available displaying flowers in various shades of white, pink and deep rose.
