Camptotheca accuminata
the speciesThe happy tree, cancer tree or tree of life is in the Nyssaceae family and is native to southern China and Tibet. It is a medium-sized deciduous tree growing to about 20 m in height.
- Leaves are deciduous, oval-oblong, papery, 10–12 cm long and 6–9 cm broad, apex acuminate, base rounded, dark green upper side, lighter underside with veins densely covered in silky pubescence, 8-12 pairs of slightly curved veins; petiole is 1.5–3 cm long.
- Flowers are terminal or axillary, 3.8–5 cm in diameter; flowering is in May to July.
- Fruit is globose, 2.5 cm long.
- Bark is light gray, deeply furrowed in older trees; young branchlets are purplish, villous, old branchlets glabrous.
