Callicarpa japonica
East Asian speciesEast Asian beautyberry is a member of the mint or Lamiaceae family and is native to China (including Taiwan), Japan and Korea. It is a deciduous shrub.
- Deciduous leaves are elliptic to obovate, green, 2.5–6.5 cm long, sometimes taper-pointed, turning yellow in fall.
- Berries are small drupes about 5 mm in diameter, purple in colour, attractive for growing closely together in large clusters, hitting their peak in October and dropping in early winter. They are quite edible to wildlife.
